The Ultimate Christmas Meme

I have been tagged by Mum 2 Baby Insomniac to participate in this festive meme originating from Mummy Alarm. It’s a good one…

1. The Christmas song I can even listen to in June is…

This is debatable that I wouldn’t slightly moan at the ridiculous sound of it in June but my favourite Christmas song is ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ by Mariah Carey. Cheesy you may say but it’s always the one I hold out for when listening to Christmas music and it makes me feel all happy and of course it’s in Love Actually and I love that film too. Yes I can watch that film in the summer too because it’s such a great feel good film.

2. Hot Chocolate, Egg Nog or Mulled Wine?

Mulled wine for me because it’s that once in a year type drink, unlike hot chocolate. I remember going late night shopping in my local town and grabbing a mulled wine with my Mum, happy memories.

3. When do you put your decorations up?

This year it was the first weekend in Decemeber as we couldn’t resist with Beastie knowing more about what is going on this year. Normally we would put the tree up mid December. I never see the point in waiting late as half the fun is the run up to Christmas and if you leave it that late then before you know it Christmas is over. We also don’t do the 12 days of Christmas, the tree is down New Years Day as I can’t bear it up any longer. Especially when all the tv adverts consist of summer holidays!

4. What are you having for Christmas dinner?

We are having turkey with all the usual trimmings, lots of home made red cabbage for me and sprouts for everyone else. There will be chocolate puddings and I quite fancy making a trifle but I think it would just be me eating it.

5. What’s your favourite Christmas Tradition?

A glass of bucks fizz in the morning followed by scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. I can’t have either this year *sniff* but then I won’t be seeing my Mum anyway and that’s our tradition. I remember a few Christmas mornings struggling to get the bucks fizz down after a heavy night out Christmas Eve but it still had to be done – hair of the dog and all that.

6. Have you ever gone carol singing?

No I haven’t. I would need a large crowd to drown out my voice but I quite like the idea. It’s lovely hearing them and there is nothing quite so festive as hearing carol singers.

7. When did you discover the truth about Santa?

I have no idea! I even still believed one year after my parents put tins of spaghetti in my stocking (pillow case) and dog food in my sisters (she was old enough to not believe don’t worry!). I remember then seeing all the presents at the end of my Mum and Dad’s bed and all was forgiven. I am not quite sure why they did it but I am pretty sure the idea derived from my Dad. I think my sister might have blown the whistle on Santa though…like the time she convinced me I was adopted. How many people have had older siblings do that to them?…

8. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?

I love white lights and it to look non fussy. I don’t use tinsel, just lots of pretty baubles, currently in silver and teal. I love icicles and glass baubles and anything that makes it look more twinkly.

9. What’s the best thing about Christmas?

It has to be the atmosphere for me too. I don’t seem to mind the cold weather so much when Christmas is here as it adds to it and wouldn’t feel right without it. We spent it in Spain last year and they don’t make a fuss of Christmas like they do over here and it didn’t feel the same.

10. All I want for Christmas is…

For my little boy to have the best day. I can’t wait to see his face light up when he sees what we have got him. I think I may have finally grown up as I just don’t get excited about presents for me anymore.
