Nice Items For Our New Home

We already have a pretty large collection of essentials in our new home, that comes with sharing a home together for many years. Some pieces won’t make it when we move and it’s been a much needed excuse to get some ‘proper’ pieces of furniture that will stand the test of time, rather than a house kitted out in flat pack furniture – sorry Ikea! That’s not to say that Ikea doesn’t still have items that we need, such as plates and storage.

A sturdy dining table

We’ve been meaning to get a new dining table that will be in keeping with our new decor and one that is extremely sturdy too. Our last one has been hanging on for some time, and is literally about to lose a leg at any given moment.

I like the concept of having benches instead of chairs too. It’ll help keep the seating area more compact and it makes sense when you can easily sit three people along each bench, and even more handy for seating kids.

Some fancy glassware

I have my eye on lots of kitchen decoration accessories that I know will really make the kitchen just how I want it to be. It’s all very well having everyday glasses, but sometimes it’s nice to bring out the crystal – or in this case, these beautiful gold leaf stemless wine glasses by Sara Miller. They’re perfect for drinking wine, but also look rather fabulous filled with some Pimm’s or gin.

Sideboard love

I must admit to already owning a sideboard after I carried out a chalk paint sideboard project a few years ago. It was very much a labour of love when I painted it (heavily pregnant) and although I love the colour, I have never been happy with the finish. I do have some grey Frenchic paint that I plan to paint it with at some point, it’s just finding the time to do it.

I’d still really love a wooden sideboard that looks a little more refined and is more of a statement piece that will always work with whatever decor and colour scheme that I choose.

Rattan

The rise of rattan pieces has really caught my eye recently and I already have my eye on a few items that I want around the house. I particularly love the look of rattan lampshades and how they bring warmth into a room, so I’ll definitely be getting some to hang around the rooms, as well as getting some shelving and mirrors.

The list is still ongoing, but I’m picking up ideas as I go along and slowly starting to get an idea of how the house will start to take shape once we’re in.

Nb. The Sara Miller wineglasses mentioned were kindly gifted to me for a previous collaboration.
