Top UK Destinations for Summer Breaks

The UK is full of great destinations for a summer break. Some activity packed seaside resorts, others a little more quaint. You’ll find some great ideas for UK summer breaks below:

Stratford upon Avon

Stratford upon Avon is a beautiful place. Steeped in history and surrounded by the quaint and stunningly beautiful Cotswolds, it’s the perfect base for a summer break this year. As the birthplace of William Shakespeare, you’ll find the Royal Shakespeare Theatre here, which is a fantastic theatre to take in one of his famous works, like A Midsummer Nights Dream or Hamlet. You can take a boat along the picturesque River Avon, stroll along its banks through a pretty park that houses the most lovely café selling some simply amazing cakes, visit Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, take a tour of some of the historic sites around the town and maybe even join in a ghost tour.

Further afield in The Cotswolds, Bourton on the Water is perhaps one of the most popular Cotswolds villages to visit. This beautiful historic village, often referred to as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’, thanks to the River Windrush running right through it, is home to some stunning walks, a bird park, amazing architecture and some fabulous little shops and restaurants. Broadway is a sleepy picture postcard village – well known for its arts and crafts music and surrounded by beautiful countryside, it’s popular with hikers. There are so many beautiful towns and villages dotted throughout the Cotswold countryside that it’s impossible to list them all!

Bournemouth

With seven miles of golden sand and crystal clear sea, Bournemouth is a popular summer holiday destination and has been for many years. There’s so much to do here you won’t know where to start. Theatre lovers can take in a show at the Pavilion Theatre, you can hire your very own beach hut for the day or try out the brand new beach pods at Boscombe Beach. Take a walk along the seafront from Boscombe Pier to Bournemouth Pier, enjoying a spot of lunch in one of the great cafés along the way.

For a great family friendly beach, look no further than Avon Beach, a family run resort a few miles from Bournemouth where you can easily spend a whole day enjoying the gently lapping waves and golden sand, renting a beach hut, trying your hand at watersports and perhaps enjoying a meal at The Noisy Lobster, the excellent restaurant based here. If you forget anything there’s a handy gift shop that stocks everything from buckets and spades to books. It’s a wonderful place to spend a day together by the seaside.

Elsewhere

There are, of course, many more destinations throughout the UK just waiting to be explored on your UK summer break this year. The New Forest is a stunning area of natural beauty, packed with pretty towns and villages, interesting attractions, plenty of opportunities for horseriding and woodland walks, and you can even catch a ferry to the Isle of Wight from the seaside town of Lymington or enjoy a dip in its lido overlooking the sea. The Lake District is another wonderful area to visit – full of stunning scenery offering amazing walks, it’s a hikers paradise. Wherever you choose for your UK break this year, take your sense of adventure and your loved ones and you’re sure to have a marvellous time.
