A couple of weeks ago I went to visit a spa with some blogging friends for a ‘parents retreat’. Now when this was suggested to me I didn’t need anytime at all to think about my answer. Er, yes please!
I actually had to really think about when it was that I last had a spa treatment and it was certainly well before my daughter was born, who is now nearly two. So for me, it couldn’t have come at a better time after the stresses of moving to another part of the country with my family and starting a new job.
We visited the Brooklands Hotel with Spa Seekers and really were given the VIP treatment. It was lovely to meet up with some fellow blogging friends. I spent the day with Emma (The Joy of Five), Katy (Modern Mummy), Carissa (Little Likely Lads) and Rebecca (aaublog).
Our lunch came with a glass of bubbly and the menu was delicuous. Some of the girls had salads and some had burgers. However, Carissa and I simply couldn’t resist the urge to indulge in an afternoon tea and we were not disappointed with what we were presented with! I’m usually terrible for feeling like I have to finish everything on my plate but on this occasion I really struggled to get through the gorgeous treats on display – oh I do hate to leave food!
I opted to have their relaxing and nourishing body wrap that lasted 50 minutes. Perfect for somebody who struggles to unwind like me. The therapist was extremely professional and I left the treatment feeling thoroughly relaxed after nearly an hour of pampering.
Here are Rebecca, Emma and Katy being shown around the hotel…
Here we all are, pre treatments!
The outdoor area had plenty of loungers and was also home to the hot tub, which not surprisingly, was rather popular. This all overlooked the Mercedes race track opposite. It certainly made for an interesting outlook and one that I wouldn’t imagine seeing from a spa. There were several groups of people and lots of couples, so it’s the perfect location for fans of motor racing and enjoyed just the same by people who are not (me).
There were also plenty of places to lounge inside the spa, if you didn’t want to be outside.
We all had treatments at different times and used the facilities before and after our treatments. I particularly liked the meditation room that comprised of water beds with low lighting. Obviously it was meant for some quiet time but Rebecca and I had a good chat instead (luckily there was only the two of us in there) and then we went on to use the Sauna and Steam room.
We all managed to finally get together in the hot tub towards the end of our stay, once we’d squeezed in next to some hot tub hoggers….
All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon spent in luxurious surroundings with some lovely lovely girls. So when do I get to do this again??
So if this has made you really crave a spa retreat yourself then you have the chance to win a parents retreat at the Brooklands Hotel for yourself.
