Christmas Ideas: Teen to Toddler Books

As a keen reader myself, I always love to gift books at Christmas as I think they make a wonderful keepsake present and are great for keeping little readers interested in reading.

These Vicky Cowie rhyming books are beautifully illustrated and provide a few laughs for grown ups too. The first book is the tale of a young girls magical walk through the woods, and the secrets she will keep forever and the second is based on the British myth of the Brownie and this story is a great one to get small children giggling, and some grownups too.

They say that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but Lights On Cotton Rock is a beautiful story for ages 4–7 about family and dreams, travels through space and time to show us that what we are looking for, might be closer than we think.

This book already gets a mention in my post on Magical Christmas Ideas for Children. The Christmas magic really comes alive with Dasher, which is the story of a brave little doe who meets Santa and changes Christmas for ever.

This book needs no explanation, it’s for the football fans out there. Fantastic Footballers will delight any sporting mad boys or girls.

Next up is Greek Myths and Mazes which includes a fascinating collection of labyrinths and puzzles set in Ancient Greece.  From an Ancient Greek theatre, to the Trojan horse and the Minotaur, the book is packed full of history and mythology, and will interest readers of all ages.

The charming Look up at the Stars is all about parent and child who go in search of a star. This lyrical picture book celebrates imagination, adventure, coming home – and the idea that sometimes what you are looking for is right under your nose.

This Nevertell is a gorgeous, snowy adventure, set in the wilds of Siberia, full of magic and wonder, for junior readers.

Cross The Blair Witch Project with Stranger Things and you’ve got Rules for Vanishing. Once a year, a road appears in the forest where the ghost of Lucy Gallows beckons. Lucy’s game isn’t for the faint of heart.

Sophie Dahl brings us Madame Badobedah which is a timeless story celebrating friendship and imagination as an unlikely friendship grows between Madame Badobedah and a little girl called Mabel in a seaside town.

The Toll is the highly anticipated finale to the New York Times bestselling trilogy, dictators, prophets, and tensions rise. In a world that’s conquered death, will humanity finally be torn asunder by the immortal beings it created?
