Are Neuaura Menopause Supplements just 1 big scam?

As the title suggests this post is about the Neuaura Daily Menopause Supplement, but after starting to write this, it goes so much deeper than just one company…

For full disclosure, I was approached by Neuaura through my Instagram account and asked if I would be interested in reviewing their Daily Menopause Supplement, which I accepted – but this is my completely honest review.

At 45 years old, I am very much in the midst of my Perimenopause journey, for how long I don’t know, but by all accounts my symptoms aren’t quite as severe as others I’ve read.

Currently I am suffering with brain fog, restlessness, sometimes have trouble sleeping, anxiety, aching joints (especially my hips) and a lowered libido.

When it comes to Perimenopause and Menopause you only have two camps, those who take HRT and those who don’t for many different reasons.

I am in the latter, due to my family history of breast cancer. My GP said I could take it but it was my personal choice not to due to the fact that there seems so much conflicting information surrounding the link between HRT and breast cancer.

So that leaves me (for now), having to go down the supplement based route, and so far on my Perimenopause journey I have tried A LOT of supplements!

For those who have experience in trying and using supplements will understand it’s not a cheap way to find out if herbal pills will help with symptoms or not.

When Neuaura reached out to me I will admit I got a VERY excited at the bold claims that they state on their website.

‘Neuaura’s Daily Menopause Supplement is Hands Down THE MOST Effective Menopause supplement On The Planet’.

Interestingly on the Neuaura website, they state the following:

  • Day 1-3 – Feel the power of our menopause supplement as it begins to target the root cause of your hormonal imbalances and boosts your energy.
  • Day 4-7 – You will begin to feel your brain fog lift as you mind becomes clearer and you begin to feel more balanced.
  • Day 7-14 – Feel more level headed with your mood swings become less frequent.

I took the Neuaura Daily Menopause Supplement for a total of 9 days and felt absolutely zero changes apart from one MAJOR side effect.

If you look on the Neuaura website they state:

‘Our daily menopause supplement is formulated to minimise side effects, but some individuals may experience discomfort. We’re proud to say that there are no reported side effects—only positive experiences!’.

I don’t have any underlying health conditions (I have had a full medical through my work and very recently an echo on my heart), I’m also not on any medication, the only other supplement I take is Magnesium and I have been taking this for 18 months with no adverse reactions.

But after taking the Neuaura Daily Menopause Supplement for 9 days, I started noticing that any cuts I sustained they would bleed a lot more than usual, to the point the cuts weren’t clotting properly, almost as if I was on anticoagulant medication!

One day whilst at work I was pre-assessing a patient, I got an itch on my arm and scratched it. I must have scratched a scab as the blood just kept coming from this pin head cut and I knew at that point that something was amiss.

After noticing this I then stopped taking the Neuaura Daily Menopause Supplement and reached out to ‘Julie’ from Neuaura (who contacted me originally) and explained what I was experiencing.

Doing a little research into the ingredients in Neuaura Daily Menopause Supplement, it turns out that Red Clover specifically can actually reduce blood from clotting and is the reason why people who are on blood thinning medication shouldn’t take supplements that contain Red Clover.

The response I got back from Julie loosely translated as:

‘Our products most definitely don’t contain enough Red Clover to cause this, have a nice life’.

Which left me feeling like I was being fobbed off like it most definitely wasn’t down to the Neuaura Daily Menopause Supplement! So I did my own research which turned out to be pretty inconclusive.

Not enough information has been published on the amounts that is safe to consume of Red Clover and also not enough trials have been conducted with the use of Red Clover.

As a trained healthcare professional myself, having worked in healthcare for the last 20 years and currently working within the NHS and private sector, I felt a duty to warn other potential users of Neuaura Daily Menopause Supplement about the potential side effects which Neuaura claim there aren’t any.

So I left a review on Trustpilot:

Within a matter of hours I received a message from ‘Julie’ through Instagram and from Michelle, the owner of Neuaura.

This prompted me to do some more digging into Neuaura due to the vagueness in their response. With such big bold claims surely Neuaura could back them up with names and reports? I mean if you claimed that your products are ‘created by the biggest and most well known nutritionist and formulation expert in the UK. She works for many of the biggest brands you will have heard of and is one of the most respected people in the industry’, you would shout their name from the rooftop and want to be associated with this renowned expert.

To cut a long story short I replied back with the following questions/statements and received absolute silence:

  • You mentioned that your products are created by the biggest and most well known nutritionist and formulation expert in the UK. She works for many of the biggest brands you will have heard of and is one of the most respected people in the industry. Could you tell me the name of who this lady is that has created your products?
  • You mention on your website that your manufacturing facility where your products are made is in the UK, where are these facilities?
  • On your website there are multiple testimonials of other women your product have helped without any links of where these reviews are (they aren’t on Truspilot so where are these testimonials/reviews?).
  • On your website you state ‘UK made with highest quality standards, backed by 60+ years of expertise’, “100% Transparency & Dosage We disclose every ingredient in our products, complete with the dosage we use and the scientific studies that prove its health benefits’  and ‘Formulated by the Experts Formulated by leading female menopause specialists and nutritionists who have over 100 years of experience combined’.  Who are the names and credentials of the people with 60+ years of expertise and 100 years of experience? Also where on your site (that you claim to have conducted scientific studies) are the scientific studies that prove your health benefits?

To not get even an acknowledgement to anything felt like my claims were justified.

The problem with supplements are they aren’t regulated like medical drugs are, so you can make big bold claims without any proof what so ever and you can even piggy back off of other peoples trials as proof of what you’re advertising.

The thing that separates bad supplement companies from the good ones is disclosure. If your products contain ingredients that have the potential to cause major problems then be open, honest and transparent and not just a blanket disclaimer telling you to consult your GP if you have underlying health conditions or are on medication.

I mean come on, if you know you have an underlying health condition then it’s not really underlying is it?

There are plenty of supplement focused companies out there, but the things that separate good ones from bad ones is transparency. Step forward We Are Feel who go into quite a lot of detail of the pros of Red Clover but also the potential risks associated with it, the are very open, you can check out their post here.

The one thing that stuck out to me with Neuaura is that among their many claims of experts on their books, not one of them is medical and there is a reason for that. No one medically licensed or registered will put their name to any specific company or brand because that opens them up to a whole world of potential issues, namely being struck off.

Backed by specialists, endorsed by your favourite menopausal influencer!

Thats the other problem with supplements, influencers have the power to sway your decision without any knowledge in the slightest and being paid they aren’t going to tell you not to buy what they are promoting!

When it comes to supplements, please do your homework – it’s your body after all. Independent places like Holland and Barrett have a swarm of reviews left by real people, not influencers looking to make a few quid. It’s important to remember that you really must take what they say with a pinch of salt, because they will singing off the same hymn sheet as everyone else and when you’re making a living from brand deals, money talks. As an influencer, if you want more collaborations, you generally do what is needed to keep brands sweet.

I also think I may be in the minority but out of all the supplements I have ever tried, I have yet to find something that feels like it actually works. The only thing that has worked for me is fitness for my aching joints, magnesium for sleep and restlessness and trying to follow a more balanced diet.

This begs the question, why do people without any medical or healthcare related background what so ever go into the supplement business, if it isn’t purely for monetary gain?! Please do some of your own research before blindly buying into fads. It’s not just your bank account that might take a hit.
