Creating The Perfect ‘Me’ Space In Your Home

by Hannah

When you’re building a family home, you put a lot of effort into creating the perfect space to enjoy as a family.  Every decision is based around that.  However, it can sometimes feel like you don’t truly have a space of your own.  To relax, to decompress and just do what makes you happy.

The spaces we create for ourselves have a huge impact on our lives.  It can affect our mood, concentration and sense of self.

If you are lucky enough to have a bit of spare space and the budget, then you can create the perfect space which you can call your own.

Find Your Perfect Space

You might have to get creative when looking for the perfect space.  If you’ve got a spare bedroom, then great, but if nothing immediately jumps out, then you’re going to have to get your hands dirty and create your own.  Perhaps you could convert your loft.  If you’re not sure if that’s an option, get a specialist in to find out more about your options.

If you’ve room in the garden, a ‘she shed’ could be the perfect space away from the bustle of family activity in the house.  You won’t need planning permission and can even connect it to the mains to make it a true home away from home.

Decide What You’re Going To Do There

When you imagine your own space, what are you doing? Watching TV, exercising, sleeping, reading a book with a glass of wine or practising a hobby? There are no wrong answers, but this will shape the way you design the space.  If you’re planning to sleep, a beautiful chaise longue might be on your shopping list.

Design It For You!

You have free reign on every feature of the room, you don’t have to consider if your partner will like it, or if it’s hardwearing enough to withstand the kids playing.   Fill it with things that make you happy and that you love.

If you’re finding it difficult to find inspiration, social media is a treasure trove of ideas that you can use to create your perfect space.  Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube are particularly good when it comes to examples of home transformations.

Create Time For Yourself, And Stick To It

Of course, once you’ve created your little haven, you need to start using in.  Arrange time away regularly, and stick to it, even if it’s just for 10 minutes.

While you’re in there, try to clear your mind of the millions of things swirling around your mind. It may not come easily to you, but that shouldn’t put you off. Don’t feel guilty about taking a little time out for self-care, as the saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to self-care, you owe it to yourself to devote time to being by yourself, doing what makes you happy,  It will lead to you being more effective in other areas of you life as a mother, partner or friend.
